Bring Our Mission to Your Classroom!.png

See below for some ways that Shining Stars Foundation can help promote empathy, understanding, and resilience through meaningful, educational presentations and service-based learning projects.

All programs are COVID-19 friendly and can be facilitated virtually!
All programs are FREE to the students, teachers and schools who participate!

  • Kick-off Presentation - One of our Shining Stars staff members will present to your classroom, detailing the challenges that children faced with cancer often face. Using stories, photos, and videos (like the video of Sophia, below) we help students of all ages recognize the struggle that their peers with cancer often face.

For younger children, we answer basic questions about pediatric cancer. ie. NO - it is not contagious. NO - these children are no different than you are! For high school aged kids, we offer ideas on how to provide support to their classmates with serious health problems in a compassionate way.

This messaging often includes a more broad anti-bullying sentiment and a call for empathy and inclusion across the board.

  • Interview with a Shining Star - One of our most requested presentations is the opportunity for your classroom to engage directly with one of our Shining Stars kids. This typically consists of the child or teenager telling the story of their cancer battle, which can be very therapeutic for that child to share. Following that, we like to open up the floor for any questions your students may have. This aspect of the Kids Helping Kids program is extremely impactful, as it puts a name and a face to the issue of childhood cancer, and encourages empathy and understanding.

  • Service- Based Learning Projects - Our team can help your classroom develop a fundraiser or awareness event to benefit the mission of Shining Stars Foundation and pediatric cancer patients and their families. In explaining the impact of your student’s efforts, we encourage students to continue on a path of service and volunteerism for years to come.

  • Awards/Recognition Ceremony - At the conclusion of this event, drive, or program, we’d love to come in and recognize the contributions of your students with a ceremony and award presentation. This recognition will crystalize the tenants of the program (empathy, understanding and resilience) in the hearts and minds of your students.

Again, this program can be completely tailored to your requests, so long as it meets the guidelines of our mission in bringing HOPE to children with cancer!  Use the form below to get your classroom started with Kids Helping Kids today!
